A life project is more than picking a career
Many people, thinking about a life project, assume it is only about the profession they want to have. But the project of a life means far more: it means thinking, beyond the profession, about the career within that profession, the people you want around you outside work, the things you want to build, the knowledge you want to acquire, the hobbies you want to keep, and being at peace with your own spirituality, whatever it may be.
Having life projects means having a central aim in the future that you can move toward through effort in the present. It means more positive affect — happiness, satisfaction with life, hope for the future and psychological wellbeing.
Staying focused on your life project means being present, making use of the moment, while at the same time preparing for the future you want, so that one area of your life does not end up at odds with another.
What we work on
Beyond the career choice itself — whether for a job or for a full change of direction — I work on aspects that take in the whole of life. Sessions can be individual or in groups, with teenagers and adults.
The research behind it
I developed a Life Project Construction Program during my master's at PUC-Campinas, funded by CAPES. The thesis is freely available in the university repository, in Portuguese.
