How it works
Couples therapy grounded in the behavioral approach has existed since the 1950s, chiefly in England and the United States. It has been refined ever since, taking in both new scientific findings and the new forms of relationship that contemporary society has come to recognize and legitimize.
Sessions can happen with the couple together or separately — which one suits depends on the couple and on how they are relating at the moment.
Reading material that speeds the work along
To make the process easier, I co-wrote with Augusto Mathias the book “Como (re)viver uma relação: soluções práticas para o dia a dia do seu relacionamento” (“How to (re)live a relationship: practical solutions for everyday life together”). In plain, practical language, the book helps couples think through the main obstacles a relationship runs into. Those reflections can be discussed between partners and brought into the session. The book is written in Portuguese.
The e-book is available on the major platforms — pick the one you prefer and get your copy, or give it to someone.
